Binti Shupavu

CWE-TECH is partnering with Daring Girls (Formerly AfricAid) to implement Binti Shupavu programme in Kenya.
Binti Shupavu, a term that means “Courageous Daughters” is a program focused on mentoring young girls to cultivate life skills and resilience. The inception of the program identified problems faced by young teenage girls, including poverty, lack of motivation and commitment in education, insufficient parental care, sexual and reproductive health issues, and peer pressure, among others. Therefore, Binti Shupavu is tailored to mentor scholars through a well articulated curriculum that fits scholars age as they grow for a period of four years. This happens through mentors who walk the journey with the scholars and engage with them at least once a week. B.S aims to provide mentoring on personal motivation, life skills, and wellness, among other aspects, to ensure scholars don’t drop out and are resilient enough to face upcoming challenges in life. It takes an approach different from teaching, counseling, or coaching. Instead, it ensures mentors and scholars build healthy relationships, collaborate, share true experiences, and both the mentor and scholars learn from each other and mostly to develop a positive path towards the future of the scholars and in case of dropping out the scholar has essential skills to overcome life challenges.
